KET targets the IMT2000 Optical Repeater Market

Preparation is underway among producers of optical modules to advance into the market for optical transceiver modules used to build IMT 2000 Repeater

According to industry sources on the 6th, optical module producers such as KET and Cominet have begun producing related products with the expectation that demand for optical modules will increase once IMT 2000 services are commenced.

Once IMT 2000 services commence, it is projected that a new market worth 150 billion won will be created after the installation of base stations.

In addition, it is likely that Korea will advance into overseas markets, including China¡¯s optical connector market.

KET (Chang-Won Lee, CEO, http://www.connector.co.kr) will prepare for the increase in the demand for the IMT 2000 Repeater by manufacturing 2.5Gbps- bandwidth 4 channel and 8 channel CWDM modules beginning from this month.
KET will secure price competitiveness and supply its products to Korean and overseas costumers by producing its own components such as filters and jumper cords and by taking charge of the packaging.

Cominet (Tai-Chin Song, CEO, http://www.cominet.co.kr) will complete the development of 2.5Gbps optical transponders and WDM equipment, which will go into production beginning from this month. Cominet expects 2.5Gbps transponders to be applied to optical equipment used at IMT 2000 base stations and control stations.
Cho

According to Cominet Vice President Byung-Hee Cho, Cominet has ¡°already submitted a proposal although technological details have yet to be finalized¡±.
He added, ¡°We will be able to secure competitiveness since we can provide on-site support to the process of product provision unlike overseas companies such as Lucent¡±.
Luminent Korea (Woon-Ha Lee,CEO,http://luminentkorea.co.kr)

which produces optical transceivers, is currently targeting the Chinese market as an export destination.
